MOUNTAINS, GANDALF!
I wanted to practice creating different terraisn using the terrain tools. The basic goal / idea of this little project was tto have one hero mountain in the centre, some additional background mountains, an interesting foreground and a lake.
I used the terrain tools to create a combination of different types of terrain for each of the intitla purposes and repositioned them around the scene until I had a rough layout I was happy with. I then scattered a veriety of different tree and bush models around the environment in order to break up the landscape and give it a bit of life. I retextured some of the trees to give the evnironment an autumnal feel.
I created a VDB fog across the landscape to as a bit of an experiment in prodcuing such an effect and I think it looks very convincing.
For the lake I used a standard grid positioned in the centre of the terrain on which I developed a moving noise shader to give the impression of a might breeze moving across the surface. As I was working with a very small camera movement I wanted this to give a little bit of action into the shot. I could have put an animation on the trees to make them sway in the wind but I didn’t want it to appear too windy.
I addes some extra clouds around the peak of the hero mountain but I had to be careful that they fit in with the clouds I had in the HDRI skybox I was using.
