One little project I wanted to do to continue to try and master the Vellum tools in houdini was to crerate some dynamic ship sails. Whilst not nessicarily the easiest or must intuitive way to do this sort of project I wanted to see if I could create a physically accurate setup including the masts, beams and ropes.
I laid out a basic setup of the masts and created some planes to ast as the sails and went about creating a constraint network to tie everything together.
Ultimatley, by changing the wind direction, the sails react accordingly, to behavve as it they would in the corresponding windy conditions. Whilst not 100% physically accurate I did learn a lot about the cloth simulations, consttains, and how the paramaters in the tools work.
